Although I had a motorcycle license as a kid, I let it lapse. About 20 years ago, I decided to get back into motorcycling. The best option for me was a local Rider Ed course. Took up most of the weekend, but IMH, was worth every minute of my time and every dollar it cost me. Unlike the MV agency, the folks who run the Rider Ed courses have a vested interest in you passing. All I needed was a valid permit, leather gloves and boots, appropriate outer wear, and my lunch. They provided the rest. As I recall, I took the test on a bike I rode all weekend, a 250 Yamaha in kind of an enduro configuration.
