My $.02 :
I don't know anything about whistles or horns, and based on the average user opinion of the preceding posts it doesn't sound like I'm going to bother with them...
I live in South Central PA (near York, home-for-now of HD) If I go home via a particular route, Dark Hollow Rd., I'm virtually guaranteed to see deer in the evenings or at night. I mean EVERY TIME.
Deer are everywhere, just like cars. I treat them the same way; watch their every idgit move!
I think the two best strategies for avoiding making or being deer road-kill would be like a couple of the OPs said:
1. My Rush baloney-cut exhaust: a few blips of the throttle lets them know I'm coming...
2. I added auxilliary lights to my SG on the crash bar: looking for deer and SEEING them goes a long way towards MISSING them.
