Winter Vacation Time

We made it to Slidell Louisiana on Jan 29th and camped there for a few weeks. While my wife and her cousins were on their cruise I took some rides around. One over to the plantations west of New Orleans and ended up in the French Quarter on my return to Slidell. Took a ride over to Mobile Alabama and a few around Slidell to Biloxi and just around the area. Didn't have very many rain free days while in Slidell.
When they returned from their cruise we walked around the French Quarter and even took in a parade.
I drove them all to the Whitney Plantation to take in a tour. 20200201_131655.jpg 20200201_131658.jpg 20200201_131722.jpg 20200202_112932.jpg 20200202_112942.jpg 20200209_135938.jpg

Nice pictures looks like your vacation was a blast, glad you made it through the bumps along the way!

The Alabama info center I'd stopped at on my ride to Mobile. A few pictures of the RV resort we camped at in Winterhaven and another one of the RV resort across the interstate and field from us.20200209_135938.jpg 20200209_140003.jpg 20200302_072017.jpg 20200302_072420.jpg 20200302_072502.jpg 20200316_080354.jpg

I'm sure many of you know what it's like to hit a bee or wasp at 65 mph. For me it meant a sting and swelling for a few days on the left side of my face. Had to run out for some antihistamine to keep it in check.
Happened on a ride my wife and I took up to Calipatri California. Actually we were planning on doing the loop from Winterhaven on I-8 to 11 and up to 78, over to S34 and back to Winterhaven but I didn't pay attention to the map on what hwy to take off 111 and didn't check till we'd hit Calipatria. Ended up backtracking and still did the loop.

On the way home I drove past Moab Utah. Pictures were taken south of Moab.

On our way back to Winterhaven from Louisiana we'd stopped in the tourist trap called Tombstone and grabbed a couple t-shirts for souvenirs. The last picture is of the weird ice our camper freezer makes sometimes.
We drove through Denver on the way home. When we left Denver Thursday morning March 19th we had to get ahead of a winter storm as it rolled in. Left Lakewood area in heavy rain that turned to heavy snow and then rain again before we hit Fort Collins. By the time we hit Cheyenne it was all snow and slush building up and the hwy to Torrington Wyoming was a couple inches of slush on the hwy. Switched into 4wd to keep us straight after the rear end of the truck tried to fishtail on one hill. Ended up driving out of the storm before Torrington but found patches of icy roads when we headed into Nebraska and up to South Dakota. Southern South Dakota met us with freezing rain for a few miles. Knuckles were a little white on that drive but slow and steady got us through.

Mother Nature has a twisted sense of humour. When we travel west we hit west winds. When heading south there was south headwinds. At least when we headed east it wasn't east wind but more often a south or north angled wind. When we were heading home it was stiff north winds for 3 days. Only once we actually had a tail wind and that was crossing New Mexico when we had a nice 30 mph west wind for a day.

Glad to see the pics. I miss taking winter vacations
Other than a couple high school travel club trips I accompanied my wife on in 2016 and 2017 I'd never taken a winter vacation. Retirement has me more apt to escape the cold and white junk. Time will tell how the covid-19 affects future trips.
