Tire damage

I was getting ready to go on a ride and was checking my tires. I found this big patch of rubber missing from my back tire. I have never seen anything like this before. I beleive it happen during a 240 mile trip in Phoenix. The weather was in the 90's.
I asked my local dealer and he stated he has seen this before. Just curious if anyone else has seen this and what may have caused it to seperate like this.

Try moving your Road Gremlin bell to one side or the other on your bike. If its on the centerline the gremlins get run over by the rear tire - sounds like one took a bite out of the tire as it went by. :s

That explains the teeth marks on the tire. :s

You folks have to ride more. 10000 miles is about average and it's taking some of you 5 yrs to get there.
