Started to the West Coast

I had a very "Wise Old Boy" tell me once, while I was feeling Sorry for myself when my HD broke down... He Said " It's All In a Life Time!"

You know He was right! My harley still breaks down!

Hang in there. What a time of life you must be having! Thanks for sharing with the many here who are following with you.

I am dying from envy right now. Oh how I wish I was on a road trip. Keep it safe and enjoy your time, keeping in mind your "making a memory". Enjoy it my friend.:) Thank you for posting and allowing us to take in a small part of it.

Jack Thanks for sharing all the details of your trip. It is as if I were riding along each day, what an adventure.

Ride Safe

The ride of a lifetime sounds about right. I know I had a ball on mine last year. One thing I found early, was that it is easy to lose your post when you have a questionable connection in some of the hotels along the way. I started writing my post in Windows Notepad, then copying and pasting it into the site system when it was ready. It eliminated all the time online hoping the conection wasn't dropped.

Keep up the good work posting your ride, can't wait to see some pictures.

Jake, I've learn to use MS word and paste it as you said. It works much easier, and I also have a spell checker to correct my terrible spelling.

Had to skip a day because Circus Circus in Las Vegas charged for internet access, and I didn't want to pay. Yesterdays ride, Wednesday, to Las Vegas started from Washington Utah at the Zion Harley dealer. Again, I can't say enough about the service department there. Not only did they have our bikes out on time, but spit shined and standing tall. Great place if any of you need service on the road. We started around 11am and took I-15 south to Vegas. It's a great ride for interstate riding. The views were nice and not a lot of traffic until we got in Las Vegas. We got on the strip and started looking for a place to stay. We wanted in a casino because they have all the places to eat and everything you need for entertainment. We stopped at one and they wanted $350 a night plus tax for one double and we needed two and a rollaway bed. Needless to say, we passed on this one, but we stumbled onto a way to find a room and save money. We used their computer at the casino and paid $7 to log on for 15 minutes. We went to Expedia and searched and found 2 doubles for $77 at Circus Circus. Wow, what a difference, and the rooms were just fine. So now, when we know where we are going to stay ahead of time, we'll book it on Expedia on the hotel computer the night before. If you bring a laptop, that would probably the best way, since you would be able to book one when you decided were you wanted to stay. We could have saved enough money for our rooms over the trip to buy a really good laptop. Next time, we'll bring a laptop! We only rode 143 miles, but we got to Las Vegas and got to see some of the city before we got our rooms. We got here early, so it was almost like a down day where we were able to hang out and relax. The good thing about casino's is the food at the buffets are usually really good and also doesn't cost an arm and leg. Jack

Today, we left Las Vegas after a big breakfast at the casino buffet. I'm glad I don't eat at these often, or I'd be too big to get on my bike. We took I-15 North for about 20 miles to route 93 north that takes you through the Great Basin National park. The views were great and the road razor straight. When we left Las Vegas, the temps were in the high 60's and really nice, but as we rode farther north, they started dropping again. Past Alamo, we decided to cut a little time off and take route 318 north, because our designation was Ely, Nevada. This worked out better than we could have ever imagine, because we ran into small rain showers and the temps keep dropping until they were in the 40's. And we thought that we were through with the cold weather. Ha! Route 93 was a Harley road in the HOG atlas, but it runs through the mountains and that seemed to be where most of the rain, and later we heard snow, was located. At the end of route 318, we took route 6 east into Ely. About a mile or two before the turn off onto route 6, we ran into sleet and rain. It didn't take us long after that to get our rain gear on, and of course, it didn't rain anymore after that. It seems that's the way it always works. Again, we didn't get many miles in because after Ely, it was too far to make it to Reno where we wanted to go next. We got a call from the service department at Zion Harley Davidson yesterday asking us if everything was OK with our bikes and the work they did. They also invited us back if our travels brought us in the area again. What a great place to do business. We rode 251 miles today and with a total of 3,371. The good thing, everything went well with no problems. On to Reno tomorrow. Jack

It’s great to follow your progress Jack! I have picked up many tips from you, Retired Jake and 09ULTRASTEVE who have posted about their motasickle adventures on this site. I bought a mini computer to take with me at the end of the month when I head out. I can hardly wait. Ride safe and have fun!
