I'm with you, I can make it for gas stop to gas stop even on long rides. 650 miles a day for 3 days to Sturis and again to get home. No drinking on the fly, I downed a bottle of water at the gas stops.

Me too. 4,250 mile round-trip to Sturgis this year and never so far between gas stations that I felt the need for a drink on the fly.
