Fuel Smell

It seems as if my fuel smell condition just got worse. After fueling bike in Centralia, PA and driving 100 miles back home, I parked bike and not only was fuel smell worse than ever but there was a puddle of fuel underneath left side of bike near the back tire. It appears that the fuel and vapors are coming out of the vent line. I will be taking bike in for service soon since it has well over 1000 miles on it. I hope they can make this better. I will post an update after the 1000 mile service to let you know what they find...

Hello Vibratinharley:D

Man,that some scary stuff, the first thing that come to my mind is a ball of fire going down the road.:bigsmiley21:

Please let us know what the dealer find out, be safe.:dknow

I just got an email from a friend who belongs to another HD Community. He said Harley has made some updates to the fuel mapping. My bike is still in the shop and they can't figure out what is wrong. I am going to be calling them tomorrow to ask them to check with HD to see if there are any mapping updates we could try.

The dealer called yesterday to tell me my bike was done. They did the heat management download and 1000 mile service and they said they checked all the fittings, lines and fuel components and could not find any fuel leak or smell. ***... I hope it goes away by itself or maybe catches fire when it is not in my garage. I don't wanna think that I will have to live with this condition and having to leave bike outside till it cools off every time I ride it. :bigsmiley19:

I hate to say this but there are a lot of dealers that couldn't diagnose their own nose on their face. You may want to try another dealer too, at least this way you have documented two issues pertaining to the fuel smell just in case anything happens down the road.

Thanks Glider, I was thinking the same thing. I actually prefer to work on my bikes myself and have done all the rebuilds on my engine/trans, etc on my FLHS but this injected and computerized stuff is a little bit foreign to me. I actually bought an extended warranty to cover the next 5 years so I won't have to deal with this bike. (and I can spend more time customizing my 90 )

isn't the heat management download the one that shuts down the rear cylinder when your Idling? :bigsmiley30:

I don't see how that would help, but I hope it does.

I read an Easy Rider tech article that Arid Extra Dry ( Armpit powder) can be used to find oil leaks.. The white powder stains when it comes in contact with the oil.

Could the same not apply to gasoline ???
Just a thought !!
