4 dead in head on crash in iowa

Lefler was asked if his client would be seeking counseling to address his drinking problem and to deal with the motorcycle deaths.

Bit late for that.

Hope Iowa justice has some teeth to it.

They must have been riding in a pretty tight formation for all 4 riders to get taken out. Makes you question if when riding in a group in a high risk area, if you shouldn't single file with 3 sec between riders. I always try to keep an eye on the oncoming when riding single lane roads for lane drift. Do good at times and the mind drifts at other times. Had a good friend back in high school killed when an oncoming dropped their cigarette and veered into their lane when reaching down to find the cig. Doesn't take much. Sad story.

Trvlr makes a good point that prevention is 90% of the deal...yes the casualty count would have been a lot less if the riders were all using the IPDE (Identify, Predict, Decide & Execute) process, scanning ahead and looking for escape path...but the variable is the drunk driver could have gotten transfixed on the headlight and just plowed into them like a deer in the headlights and that is the problem.

You can spend days going over the "what ifs" of this situation. The risks we take every time we get on a bike (or get into a car for that matter) will always be there. We can do our best to minimize those risks, but there is not much you can do about an unpredictable drunk swerving into your lane.

Just saw on the local TV news tonight that the kid did report to jail. He's still sitting there since his family can't come up with the $200K to bail him out.

Its Murder plain and simple ! I would love to believe that's why the Police carry service revolvers, Do us a public service and put em down on the spot.
