USA Tours

Guys, I hope to do a tour sometime within the next couple of years in the USA. The escorted Eagle Rider "Route 66" Tour appeals to me however, I am keen to hear of any experiences or alternative suggestions. I will be taking my other half with me so would also appreciate opinions from any of the ladies out there also.
If you make the Rt 66 trip you'll be riding an section now known as Chippawa. and you will pass Ted Drews Frozen Custard; best in town. On a warm August night it's not unusual to see a hundred or more people there have some of the goods.

GPS its the only way to travel.no need to stop and look at a map. need a hotel punch it in. it will tell you were the closest ones are need Gas need a bite to eat punch it in. you can also put in things like Dunkin Donuts if thats what you need and it will show you were the nearest one is just update your maps and way points before you head out and your good to go.you can chose fastest route. no toll route. dirt road. you name it there great. do they mess up sure once in awhile but that makes it that much more interesting:bigsmiley12:

Good for you...thats a dream of many..My wife and I did the San Juan Skyway in Colorado..then we went to Kanab , Utah...from there we seen the North Rim of the Grand Canyon,...Bryce Canyon,....and Zion National Forest..also Kanab is one of the most filmed area in movie history...Many TV and western movies made here. and if yah pass through Missouri around St. Louis we would love to put yah up and ride with you guys a bit...Keep in touch with all of us....Dan

You had better believe it, a good water proof GPS with MP3 and Photo storage is the way to go... I chose a Lowrance IWay 600C which has a FM broadcast to the Bike Stero and Bchn Betty squawks out the commands to turn here with enough advance notice to actually make the correct turns. The MP3's onboard sore your brand of music or in so inclided talking books etc. I've got about 8,000 songs on mine and I never have to listen to something I do not want to. Since it is water proof to 6 meters I don't worry about weather. Great for touring since all maps of the USA, Canada, Mexico are onboard no maps to download and mess with. You can change your route destination, or deviate without issues. you can even scan ahead or look for attractions along the way. Best of all it has a 5 inch COLOR screen that can be seen in daylight / direct sun or at night.

As far as the Colt 45, I like the Bersa 45 SC subcompact, easier to conceal, lighter, and for me more accurate when I do need to take a bit of target practice. :bigsmiley14:

Powerset,
If you can give me your email I will send you some of the best pics I believe of Route 66 I live in the dead center of it all there are car, bike, old west museums great places to eat. We live 8 miles off of R.66 we are 20 miles from Arcadia, Oklahoma Round top barn, POPS, and The Rock Cafe "featured in the TV show Dinners Drive inns and Dives featuring Guy Aimes I think thats how you spell it. Anyway we are also about 45 min from Cherokee Tradding Post and Diner (buffalo burgers) and about 1.5 more to world famous Route 66 car museum. lots to do but just adding to your options sorry to ramble.
see Oklahoma's not that bad.
Good luck,

Four of us are just going through the planning stages of a tour in USA.
We are from New Zealand. Bought our bikes (waiting for us in LA). We have done a lot of research as we have a limited time. Chosen to do our own thing and have purchased GPS's.
I found a Planner that has helped us with distances. I suspect the times that it tells us are on the cautious side and we should be able to cover the miles in less than it says. One of the beaut things about it is that we are able to download the routes onto our GPS. That is going to take a lot of pressure of us and let us enjoy the trip even more. To find out more about it check it out on The Harley Davidson site and search under the Experience title.
I have split our 3 weeks into daily sections. They are
Anaheim to Lake Havasu City
Lake Havasu City to Prescott
Prescott to Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon to Las Vegas
Las Vegas to Lake Isabella
Lake Isabella to Fresno
Fresno to Sonora
Sonora to San Franscico
San Franscico to Monterey
Monterey to Cambria
Cambria to Los Angeles

We have stops planned at Las Vegas, San Franscico, Monterey (For the MotoGP) and LA.
We are trying to squeeze as much in as possible but giving ourselves time to have a good look around.
We don't have enough time to travel all the great biker roads so we have picked out some that fit in with other things.

I hope this gives you some ideas of what can be done.

Too bad you seem to be oriented to the west coast, that would time restrict you from riding Deal's Gap, "the dragon", 318 curves in 11 miles,, and the Blue Ridge Parkway,,, may want plan a little and set basic ride goal,, you could meet riders from this site to guide you through their state towards your next destination. :s

We have plans of doing Palomar Mountain while we are in LA.
The roads you mentioned are going to be the incentive to get us back in a couple of years.
