Tensioner's cost in Canada

We have a great gentleman up here (deceased) Treve Deeley who has a license to steal. He is the importer for everything that has anything to do with Harley, and he can charge anything that he wants too. It is not uncomman to pay 40% or more for parts here plus we have a 13% sales tax. I spend 4 1/2 months a year in the States and stock up on a lot of stuff and I try not to buy too much from my dealer here. I apoligize for not being able to support him but if he went broke tomorrow I would not be upset.

Kemo, 40% I can actually swallow. The OP is paying 100% from what I can see. If he posts the part numbers we will know for sure.

Can't you guys just drive over the boarder, get what you need or get bike fixed and drive back.?

What's minimum wage up where your at?

We can cross the border and have bikes fixed but we are supposed to declare repairs. The currency exchange rate is not to bad now (95 cents) but then Canada Customs would charge us our tax 13% plus the US dealer would charge us his state tax plus $4.00 each way to cross the bridge. The costs add up, plus if we did not declare the repairs and some one notified Revenue Canada or they checked our credit cards things could get more expensive.

The cost of having Fun up there is expensive. Those prices make Rodeo Drive California look like a bargain.

I am curious why the OP only paid $65 in taxes based on $1300. I would think it would have been more like $165.

In Alberta there is only GST which is 5%. Alberta is also a booming place because of the oil production and farming. They have one of the highest cost of living in Canada. I have heard that fast food workers make near $20 an hour but housing prices are unreal.

Here's the part numbers in the same order as the name list

Does anyone think the chains needed to be replaced? I didn't do the work myself due to health issues.

Here are US. MSRP prices on those parts.

17997-99A Pushrods $146.95
39954-99A Tensioner $ 65.15

That's just over $500.00 for the parts. Live and learn, next time I'm taking a ride to Montana to get the work done. Once again, should the dealer have changed the chains? Is there a way to check the old ones? I'm wondering if I have a legit beef over them changing the chains with under 30,000 miles on the bike.

I would be more upset over the shop supply charge.

$80 for shop supplies. I don't care how you look at that price, it's too much.

It appears "shop supplies" was a Percentage of the bill which it should Not be. Yes, Ok I understand it covers rags, cotter pins, grease, cleaning fluids, hardware etc etc... but $80.
I look at shop supplies as overhead and a cost of doing business. Not as a percentage of bill.
I hate to be so blunt but the guy is a crook for this reason alone..

Do you have the old chains?
