taking apart my evo dyna for base gaskets

I will get some pics up tomorrow, every thing seems to be moving along and I am in no rush and have all winter!

today was a very successful day! I went to home depot and got a piece of ceramic tile, which I checked with a straight rule, it was pretty darn good so I cut a hole in it and proceeded to check the base of the cylinders, which were a bit off, then I spun and spun and spun till they were in good shape checking with a sharpie as I went. I then cleaned the cylinders in the sink with soapy water, and coated them with some wd40. I then moved on to gap some rings and fit a piston, pretty much not a big deal. Tomorrow I will go and get some of that gasket remover as you can see the block has some material on it that I don't want to scrape if I don't have to. If you look at the front cylinder where the stud is out you can see where it was leaking along with the back edge of the rear cylinder.

thanks again for all the help and support

It looks like you are getting there just one word of caution at some point the the past the head gasket was changed and you may need to omit the o ring on assembly
compare your new gasket with the old to see if you need the o ring

this is the first time its ever been apart, but the head gasket bag is clearly marked DO NOT USE WITH ORINGS

thanks

I wish mine had come in a bag clearly marked do not use with o rings it would have saved me gaskets time and effort and as gaskets take up to 4 weeks to get to me it is a long time to be down in the riding season

dang, ask someone here to order parts and mail them to you! I would have no problem helping you out in a bind

I keep a spare bike ready to go just in case and keep a good stock of common use spares
it only happend once i took care the next time but on that occasion i reused the origional head gaskets and got away with it till the new ones came
as it has been a few years since i had to replace any base gaskets perhaps packaging has improved

I got some of the permatex gasket remover, man I wish I had gotten it sooner! but that stuff is nasty!

2nd piston is all gapped and fitted up, I will spend some time cleaning up the cases in the next day and I think then she is ready for reassembly
