Stay Away From Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer from Microsoft, which is installed by default in Windows, isn’t a good browser, why?

  • Internet Explorer is not a web browser (but can be used to download one), because Internet Explorer doesn’t comply with the official web standards, which results in incorrect rendering of many websites and/or (partly) non-working websites
  • Internet Explorer is closed source, so it’s impossible to see what’s really going on and to find solutions to problems
  • Internet Explorer is much larger and slower than web browsers, is missing handy options and can’t zoom well, this means that small text is difficult to read
  • Internet Explorer has a lot of severe security vulnerabilities. This was the reason for security researchers like the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), a division of the Department of Homeland Security, to recommend switching to a web browser, like Mozilla Firefox
  • The European Commission has required Microsoft to give users the option to choose a competing browser in a browser choice screen, because Microsoft abused the dominant market position it has with their Windows Operating System, reducing consumer’s choice
  • Because of Microsoft’s behavior web developers are forced to make additional versions of their websites, specifically designed Internet Explorer sites for every version of Internet Explorer. This undermines competition and innovation and increases the costs and the amount of (otherwise unnecessary) work it takes web developers to build websites
  • Because of these reasons it’s very important that people use an Internet web browser and not Internet Explorer.

Here example why you must stay away from Internet Explorer, you’ll see is that the background of images in Internet Explorer is grey, while the background should be transparent (like it is in web browsers - tester Mozilla FireFox).

The study, titled “Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Browser Usage” by Canadian company AptiQuant, compiled IQ test scores of 101,326 individuals older than the age of 16 and divided them into groups according to the browser they use.

The results are fascinating. Users of Internet Explorer 6 have an average IQ score barely more than 80; Firefox and Chrome users fare much better, with average IQ scores of around 110, while Opera and Camino users have an average IQ score more than 120.

It’s also interesting to note that average IQ scores of IE6 users were significantly higher in 2006, and that the IQ scores get better with newer versions of IE.

I have been using Firefox for several years now, which would account for my extreme good looks and high intelligence.:naughty

Unfortunately the DoD forces us to use IE @ work as part of the standard desktop suite...when will they learn...:p

A: IE is integrated into windows
B: Firefox is listed on the DOD DISA approved software . Contact your IASO or IMO and ask them to install it. Firefox just responses funny to some DOD certificates. The DOD is learning, hence the addition of new jobs (cyberwarfare)....they are just a little slow.
