Primary leaking

I have used a few different brands of thread insert over the years with no problems as there always seems to be a hand somewhere that is using a tool too big for the job and manages to over tighten and strip the threads
A wee bit of red loctite on the insert will ensure it stays in there

TQ; I've been following the thread, and I still share your concern about the
inner primary thread boss being thick enough for an insert. I do like the suggestion to try & tap to the next size metric.

just changed out the trans and replaced that expensive primary gasket, $35+. when i put it back together and torqued it, i used a thin coat of key-tite green pipe dope on the gasket to help seal it. i did the same on the oil pan and the primary to engine gasket and the 5 sealing bolts inside the primary. i know what you mean about heavy handed service mechs. had to drill out the bolts on the clutch cover and replace with socket head cap screws. Not really a fan of extra junk on the gaskets but i've fought this leaking cash cow for almost 4 years. still after all this i have to pull the clutch cover cause its still leaking. :( key tite it is.
