Before I got saddlebags for my Dyna, I bought a cheap black Gym bag and black bungee cords or cargo net. I stuffed everything in, and bungeed it to the passenger section of my seat. If the bag is not full, just fold the excess under. It also functioned as a mediocre back rest. Don't worry if your bike looks like you're on a road trip,, you ARE!:D

I use a waterproof bag from Cabelas to hold all my stuff its not black and does not say HD on it but it would hold all the things that you have, keep them dry, and it was only $40.

Just wanted to let those know that posted replies to me that I made the trip without incident. It was a blast and I over packed as I was afraid. End result was 8 days and 3928 miles. Only problem I had was sun/wind burned lips (forgot chapstick for the first 2 or 3 days - valuable lesson learned) and riding position (EDIT) Neck and shoulders gave me fits but thank god for motrin...

Route took us from Northern Virginia to just outside of Detroit to pick up a friend on the first day (575 miles) then three days of leisurely riding from Michigan through Chicago and then crossing into Iowa on Highway 30 at Clinton. US 30 and US 20 across Iowa and Nebraska were GREAT. Camped all nights except three coming back. By then I needed a bed...

All in all a Great trip and I look forward to doing it again with the knowledge I gained from this one...
