Need Recommendation for bike Insurance

Funny thing, in Washington State, you are required to have motorcycle insurance but they don't require proof of insurance to renew your registration. It makes no sense, but our government makes no sense so there is no sense in trying to make any sense of it...

It is the same in NYS - and something I never thought about till now; although, I believe insurance companies are required to inform the licensing mob if your insurance expires or you stop it. And your right - it makes no sense to us but lots of dollars for insurance companies :)

When you Guys- and Guyettes- talk about insurance: what exactly do you mean?
Are you referring to compulsory insurance which is embedded in your registration fees? Perhaps a basic policy you must pay for to keep your vehicle legal?
Or is it a policy that you can voluntarily take out to offer better cover and protection for yourself?
The more coverage you want, the more you pay?

Here in the bottom of the World we pay a “Compulsory Third Party” insurance which is included in our registration. But it ain’t free. So at least everyone with a registered vehicle has some insurance. Covers nothing but lawsuits for injury. Absolutely no vehicle repairs.
We can also pay for ”Third party Property” for damage to others.( good if you hit a Merc or a Roller). Or “Third Party fire and Theft” .Pretty obvious what this does.
And then one can pay for what is known as “Comprehensive Insurance “ . This will pay for all repairs (or replacement) of your vehicle and anyone or anything else you’ve chosen to impact. And personal injuries etc.
Obviously the most expensive; and all these types of policies have a fee called an “Excess” which must be paid when a claim is made.
And of course there’s all sorts of sub phylums with regard to Limited Use, or old stuff, or Laid-Up,or alarms and immobilisers or where they’re kept and more.

Most states require some sort of liability insurance which is probably the same as your 3rd party compulsory insurance.

Insurance rates and coverage varies from state to state, so you need to shop in your primary place of residence! Talk to people in your area that have actually filed claims to find out how their coverage works when you really need it! Check to see if it covers added equipment as part of the basic policy, or is an additional policy needed for "added parts".
