G'day from Queensland Australia, I have a 2000 fatboy carb. When I turn ignition on sometimes the engine light flickers or goes out or both. I then hit starter and sometimes motor starts sometimes not. Sometimes I'll be cruzin down the highway and it'll just die the engine light comes on when it dies .If I hit the starter it sometimes fires back up and I keep motoring it's not left me on the side of the road yet but it is getting worse.

In the odometer you can check, the errors that occured when these problems started.
If you don,t know how to do this, there are several How,to,s on YouTube available.
Replacing the Fob .,s batterie might also help.
    Good Luck.

I found this HowTo on my PC. It will help you to find the part ,where the problem may be.

Start with the starter switch. Clean and check wiring for any defects. The switch may be going south on you. Do as roadking-1960 suggested as well, check for any codes.

    This might help.
    1. Harley Fault Codes 2004-2015
    2. Below is a list of comprehensive list of diagnostic codes that you may come across on your Harley-Davidson.How to Read Error Codes
      1. With the ignition in the off position, press and hold the trip meter button, and turn the ginition swith to the on position.
      2. Release the button. Your speedo indicators should illuminate and the needle should do a full sweep.
      3. “diag” will appear on the odometer screen. Press the trip button once.
      4. “PSSPt” is now displayed. Each of the letters represents a different area.
        • P = ECM / ICM (Engine / Ignition Control Module)

        • S = TSM / TSSM (Turn Signal / Turn Signal Security Module)

        • SP = Speedometer

        • t = Tachometer
      5. You can highlight each area by pressing the button. Once the area you wish to select is highlighted, press and hold the button for 5 seconds.
      6. If there are any codes, you will be able to go through them one at a time by pressing the button. Once you have them recorded, they can be cleared by holding the button for more than 5 seconds. Once “clear” is on the screen, press the button once more.
      7. To exit the Diagnostic Mode, turn the ignition switch off.

CAL 04 is not a Error code , but a serialnumber of the TSSM/ or IGN-module , so it seems there are no further problems.
But take a look at the wiring ,starting at the IGN-fuse (grey-wire) to the RUN-switch on the right controls.
The black/white wire supplies power, to the IGN-module , and the coils. If in this circuit there is a bad connection , that might cause the dying of the engine !...

    Can’t see this mentioned, but:
Take your battery leads off the battery and clean the surfaces of both the terminals and the battery.
Emery paper, wire brush, whatever. Clean them well and bolt them back up.
Make sure they’re good and tight. A nice tight perfect joint.
Then coat the connections with vaseline or proper Dielectric grease.

    Seems silly but:
Went for a ride with my brother couple of weeks back, and he was having starting and running issues. Sounded just like a flat-ish battery. (Albeit one only 12 months old.)
It would. Then it wouldn’t. Then it would run and stop or stutter.

Checked his battery connections with his Phillips head. Lovely and tight and still coated in that silly blue stuff “they” put on the terminals when “they” fit a new battery.
Checked them with a ring spanner and got a full turn and a half extra!.
Took the leads off and one could see the outline of the eyelets of the leads etched into the battery terminals from (obviously) arcing and sparking caused by the high resistance joint.
Scoured both sides clean and bolted all back tightly.
    Been perfect since.

long story with a message- don’t take stuff for granted.
This sounds just like your problem.

Thanks for the list. Been looking at 2008 ultra that shows intermittent front cylinder no combustion code. Seems to run fine otherwise
