Got a FLTRX

Tourbox and Jamesearl should be watching for sumping and trans fluid transfer. Seems that sumping may be more an issue than trans fluid transfer. Apparently there is a plate in the oil pump that is known to warp causing cavitation and failure to remove all the oil from the crank case sump. Just keep checking oil, some owners are seeing a quart down after the first 1000 miles; just something to watch for as some owners are experiencing these issues.

Not a huge Donny Peterson fan but he has an article in the October issue of American Iron this addressing this the sumping issue. He has what sounds like a valid explanation for the sumping. He also has an idea on how to prevent the sumping but it is somewhat complicated and would probably require more of a factory redesign but he claims some independent shop should look into it. He also explains how fluid transfer from transmission to primary case is also a part of this problem. All of this is a result of EPA and European regulations preventing venting to the atmosphere. Nonetheless a very interesting read.

Not trying to be an alarmist, just passing on current M8 information I have run across. Apparently the MoCo has come up with a replacement for the warping oil pump plate and the PN 62400222 is floating around as the replacement.;)
