No .... I can be going 50mph .... engage the clutch and the RPM goes to zero, but the speedo continues to operate normally .. 50 mph and decreasing .... gearing down, I can restart engine with the clutch and continue ...

With the spedo working and the tack not registering? Is that what you are saying.. I don't get the RPM part..

Is the engine turning over when you are doing 50MPH WHEN letting out the clutch? OR are you just saying the spedo is operating OK while this is going on?.

SO in other words it DIED?

Do you have a tach or just a spedo ?

By now you really should have a DTC #34 posted to the error log. I would check it.
If you do, it can be a bad IAC. Just cleaning it won't fix a mechanical issue with it. It could have a mechanical bind in it.
