The Harley Davidson dealer protocal nowadays is to get the most money out of the customer any way possible. Somehow providing great service has gone by the wayside. This is not Harley Davidson's idea. Go to any Ford, Chevy or Dodge dealer and you will find the same thing. In the long run I believe this will backfire on them. Wait until Indian, CanAm and any other company dealerships figure out that there are a lot of customers are wanting to spend their money for quality service. The American companies have all gotten government bailouts and all have attitudes that they will never fail. I will not feel bad when they are gone. They did is to themselves.
I think you are over stating the issue. Not EVERY American company has gotten a bail-out. Cam-Am's parent company, BRP, has not. They are also based in Canada. I believe Ford got one many, many years ago. Polaris, Indian's parent company, hasn't.
As for service, my bikes don't go to the dealer. My Fords go to a dealer 80 miles away, because the local is terrible. The dealer I take them to is very good, very very good. They have a 5 star rating and are fast an efficient. I even buy my tires from them. My Can-Am goes to the local dealer only for specific items. That being key programing since I can't do that myself. They don't charge for that if you have a customer number in their system. Which means you have done business with them before.
We live is a small farming community, so the OEM dealers are more than a little sensitive to customer needs. Now tractors are a different story. Since it is farming county, the prices for new purchases are better out of the valley. But service is prioritized to large farm equipment.
But this topic is about Harley dealers, not automotive, OHV or tractors. So I have strayed off topic myself.
On one other note, please remember the idea behind the thread. And that's to point out dealers that may not be the best. This forum has a policy about political discussion. IMO, your post runs close to the line on political. It served no purpose other then for you to make a generalized statement about "bailouts" and your opinion that ALL dealers have bad service.
If you have a dealer that provided less then the best service, post about it. Let's all stay on topic.
