wiring is a rats nest

im pretty sure it has no fuses at all. The guy at the local shop told my fiance in the spring when he worked on it that there are no fuses and when i trace the wires that should be going to fuses I come up empty handed, so im assuming they cut them out when they put that new turn signal module on. We are going to pick up some fuses and a few other things today. The turn signals and other lights on the dash worked but the headlight didnt before he took the bike to the local guy but that guy said he worked on it for 3 hours and just ran him a whole new wire for the head light, so now that headlight and tail light was working and all the other lights did not!! I am determined to get this thing working!! My old job I had couple years back for little over a year was for government contracting and I built wire harnesses for a F16 fighter jet planes, when the job was finished we all got laid off I loved that job, any who if I can do a job like that I surely hope I can fix a wire harness on a Harley Davidson!!! If the ignition module is fried will it still turn over? It gets fuel just no spark

There should be some circuit breakers mounted on the rear fender under the seat
The ignition module should be under the triangle shaped cover to the rear of the battery there should be an ignition trigger under the nose cone cover
However if the ignition system has bee replaced it may all be under the nose cone cover
Some electrical stuff has no return wire and ground return is through the frame so a good connection of component to frame is essential for some stuff to work
If the wiring loom is as bad as you say then might be best to give up fighting with it and get a replacement full loom they are not too complicated to fit

I would first determine the type of Ign. system you have. I could be factory, after market or just points. Look behind the small round cover on the gear cover, right side, and see what you have. You can post a pic of it, if you don't what it is. We can figure it out. If it's after market then your Ign. system is independent of the lighting and other stuff. We'll go from there.

the wires coming out of the connectors are messed up you can see the inside of the copper wire and a few threads are broken, HOW CAN I FIX THIS!!! grrr

Here is the legend for t he parts in the diagram

it has a screaming eagle Ign, it dont have points. we really do need to just get a new harness but just dnt have the money for it now. I dont know I am about ready to give up. it has that diff Ign and also it had a badlands turn signal module put on. the wires are chopped from it two and they were just spliced together with different color wires. This is beyond a mess!!!!

Update: I spent all day fixing splices and tracing wires. There are two problems; one is I'm going to fix the wires that are only holding on by a few threads that are connected to the pins that connect to the connectors. Its easy all I have to do is extract each pin from the connector (one at a time of course) that has bad wire connection and put a new pin on the wire and put the new pin back into the connector , One of the wires that has a bad pin connection is coming from the coil and going to the start/stop switch on the handle bars, so that could be why it turns over but doesn't start, at least I hope so!! The other problem is that badlands turn signal module!! Some one made their own make shift harness instead of just simply plugging it in the right way they chopped the original harness but the original connector is still hanging there by only 2 wires. Now the wires that run to the rear turn signals and the tail/brake light dont match up with the wire harness diagram you fellows gave me up above, that is where the little white rectangle fuse looking thing is connected it has yellow and black wires connecting to the rear turn signals and brake/tail light, I need to makes some phone calls today and see if I can get a wire diagram sent to me for this turn signal module, all the original wires are there so I should just be able to hook them up and get rid of that mess of a makes shift harness shouldn't I? any help on the little white rectangle fuse looking thing? thank you guys for your help:s

I have the Harley parts catalog for 93-94 sportsters. My repair manual seemed to have walked off. PM me your address and it's yours. If I come across the manual you can have that too. The parts manuals are nice to have as they show explode views but no color codes. Good luck.
