Wet clutches

My sporty takes trans fluid. What models take oil in their trans? Does it go in a separate place or does motor oil flow through both engine and trans? Do some oils make the trans slip? This is new to me and I am intrigued. Please help me to be knowledgeable.

The big twins have 3 holes for lubes, engine, trans and primary.
(Separate compartments with different needs). The sportster only has 2 where the oil is a shared. Using a synthetic oil with friction modifiers in the primary could cause some slippage with the plates.
