First thing, thanks for the welcome. Checked the things recommended and none seemed to be the issue. Turns out that my drive belt was out of tolerance for play. Adjusted it to spec and noise is gone. In answer to the other questions, it's an '01 Police Road King with 56K on the clock. I've had it for 5 years and just had the tires replaced. I guess I should have checked the belt then, but, I didn't. And to Jeff, I too am in the Rockies (or close). I live in Aurora, CO.
