Thread Repairs

Some have posted about stripping out a thread when working on the bike.

There are a few ways to repair the stripped thread. There's a heli-coil and then a time-sert. The time-sert is a bit stronger than the heli-coil.

Here's a web page and video on the heli-coil.

Here's the time-sert with a video also.

I've used those Keenserts quite a bit Mr. Data and they work very well. The drive pins you see stickin up above the insert help to lock it in place once it is screwed into the hole being repaired. In heavy duty and industrial applications, they are hard to beat.
Only downside I have found with them is that you need to have a bit more "meat" to work with for the installation.
The Helicoil probably requires the least room to work, followed by the other two. But the Helicoils also do not have the strength of the others.

Thanks for the input. I've used the other two that I posted and found the Time-sert to be a very good choice myself. They are a bit stronger than the heli-coil is.

We use Keenserts extensively in the Ground Ordnance Community to repair AAVs, LAVs, and such.
