Leaving 7/9/10 for the black hills and yellowstone park area, any must see and road to ride? Spending 3 days in Lead, S.D.!!!

Need to see everything and ride everywhere. Fantastic country down that way. Watch out for very large critters on the roads through the black hills and keep your camera ready. Be prepared for some cold temps in the high elevations of the Yellowstone area.

Also be prepared for road construction in Wyoming and South Dakota. Their highway departments do a lot of road work during the summer months.

Also, the speed limit in Yellowstone is 25 mph so it takes a long time to get anywhere. And, if you end up riding through the park at night, watch out for animals (wolves, porcupines, deer, elk, etc.) jumping or lumbering out in front of you.

Lots of good riding in the Mt. Rushmore/Keystone/Deadwood areas.

Since you're leaving Oklahoma, on the way in, stop by and ride through the Badlands. You'll be right at Deadwood if your staying in Leads. This link is of map that is available throughout the area of Black Hills and Badlands.

I posted before this thought came to mind, if you're gonna see MT Rushmore, ride Iron Mountain Rd from the south, pig tail turns and even view of Rushmore through one of the tunnels although it's in the distance. See Rushmore early in the day, late afternoon is not good for pics.

There are several good placed to ride in Wyoming. As previously posted, Beartooth Pass is a really good one, Charles Kuralt of CBS News said its "the most beautiful drive in America". Buffalo Bill scenic byway takes you from Cody Wy to Yellowstone park. If you want to go into Idaho, the Teton Pass out of Jackson Hole and over into Idaho is a very scenic road. I will be on a trip up that way July 15th through the 18th with some co-workers. There is a bike rally in Red Lodge that weekend, but we are skipping that.

Almost forgot Custer State Park and Hot Springs enjoy your ride:D

We just did the same trip last week, 9 days. Stayed in Lead one night, stopped in Sturgis, Deadwood, Cody, Devils Tower. Yellowstone was very expensive, food @ lodging in West Yellowstone was very high. $135.00 to 225.00. Make sure you look at your rooms before you pay in the 135.00 range.

It rained and or snowed for the first 7 days of our trip. Finally had sunshine thru Jackson, and the last day to Gunnison, CO..

If you go thru Jackson Billys humburgers next door to the Million Dollar bar is cheap and very good.

Hope you have a great trip:guitar

Almost forgot you gotta stop at Trevino's Leather shop just south of Deadwood 21412 US Highway 385

:D Thanks for the info, getting ready for the trip!!! If anyone else has anything we need to see and ride, please post.
