What is the difference between TC88A and TC88B engines? How can you tell when one you have? When were A and B engines used?

Early and late model year...how can you tell for sure which one you have?

Thanks,
Rich P

A is in everything but softail
B is the balanced softail engine

early or late of the production year is told by vin when it was built

As mentioned the "A" is in everything but the Softails, which have the balanced "B" motor.
Look at the engine mounts for confirmation. The "B" motors are solidly mounted to the frame.

Another tell, front motor mount bolts on "A" engines are vertical. Front motor mount bolts on "B" are horizontal.

The best motorcycling experience is where the engine is rubber mounted, shakes at idle, and is smooth above idle. It's an "A" engine. The "B" enigne is a solid mount to frame, and doesn't shake at idle, but will have a buzz at higher rpm's at higher speeds. Another controversy.
