Can anyone tell me how to remove the tail light housing assembly so that I can replace my tail light?

I know it's a simple question, but I don't have a service manual and I can't seem to figure it out. I know there's a little hole above the license plate, and I tried sticking a screw driver up there, but it doesn't seem to want to come out. Thanks

I had to take mine off up in Sturgis. We found out after a little piece of plastic broke off that we should have lifted from the bottom up. hope that helps. Don't pull it off from the top.

    trucker,

Right out of the service manual...

    1. See Figure 8-24. Insert a small screwdriver into middle hole of license plate light cover. Push forward with screwdriver to release tail lamp housing retaining clip.

    2. Lift rear of tail lamp housing up and slide housing assembly away from fender.

The rest talks about the bulb removal.

    Hope it helps.
