[Hey people, just wondering, just watched a maintenance video and the mechanic said you can not wash a harley stock filter it should be replaced, yet the manual says you can wash and reuse it any comments would be appreciated Thanks

Actually there are more than two. There's the disposable paper ones, then there's the washable paper ones that do not get oiled, then the washable oilable ones too. You have to know which one you have before proceeding.

Mine is a washable foam wrapped around a steel mesh support piece. You wash them in warm soapy water, dry them and oil them.

Does anyone know why certain air filters require oil.
Its one lifes mysteries I have never understood.

They require the oil which is done to trap more dirt from entering the engine through a media that is more open/unrestricted than a standard paper unit.
