1988 FLHS starter motor makes a zinging sound like its spinning and not engaging starter gear. pulled starter out looks like brushes are new everything looks good. checked soleniod that works ok and starter gear in primary looks ok .....does anyone know if this could be the starter that seems to be where I hear the zing.....confused??????

Sounds like you have a bad starter drive, the part inside the primary that bolts on to the starter shaft itself and engages with the ring gear on the clutch. If you have the starter out, you had to remove the drive to get it out, just put a new drive in there if and when you put it back together if it's not back together already.
