Speedo drops out randomly

Hi i have a 2005 Sportster XL1200C i was having intermittent issues with the stock speedo, and have since replaced it with a speedo/tach combo. Hoping it might solve the problem but more so i wanted the upgraded display. Since it is not the Speedo itself is it going to be the Speed sensor, Crank position sensor, or both. My manual suggests i can take out the speed sensor and clean off metal debris from it.

Has anybody had this issue and know where i should start before i go and start buying sensors.

It does sound like the speed sensor. Mine went at about 28,000 mi.

Doesn't hurt to pop it out and clean off any metal fuzz.

It's not that uncommon for these magnetic pick-ups to go south.

Thats about the mileage when mine went out on my 08 RG.

If popping it out and cleaning it works again, you know for sure, My 02 Dyna did the same thing
