This is mostly used for racing applications or Aircraft maintenance, anywhere where a loose fastener would cause a major problem. When doing this type of safety wiring, it's important to obtain the proper twists per inch and in the proper direction as to pull the bolt or fastener tight instead of loose. I've had much experience with this working on planes and it is used extensively in that application too.
