Oil Light on?

I have a 97 Softail. The engine oil light is stayiing on although I have changed oil and filter? I went synthetic this time and the motor is running smoother and better than ever. My question is how often do these lights malfunction or could it it something more serious?

Before you go any further, I would take an oil pressure reading with a mechanical gauge. You do not want to hurt your engine.

Thanks so much for the reply. The bike actually has a guage on the dipstick and reads good pressure? I don't know how acurate it is though?

I believe the dipstick gauge is a temp gauge not pressure.

I will try the mechanical guage and see whats up. I really appreciate the help.
