Liquid Gasket Remover

I'm in the process of replacing the primary chain.

The previous owner put a product known as CAT Liquid Gasket 138-8436 on either side of the primary cover gasket. Its great stuff except now I have to remove it. After 3 hrs I have only managed to scraped a small portion of it off with a knife. I am reluctant to scrape any deeper for fear of damaging the aluminum. I have searched the net and found nothing.

Can anyone recommed a product that wont remove the paint but will help break the bond with the aluminum.

There is a product made by Permates that works well. You spray it on and let it sit 10 minutes and the gasket comes off pretty easy. Protect any painted surfaces when using it.
Ace hardware carries it.

Be careful with the heat. It is flammable.

The product Glider recommended should work just fine.

This driving me nuts.

I finally got the old gasket removed with help of gasket remover.(3hrs later)

My next question is.

I bought a new compensator sprocket spline and bolt from my HD dealer ($300).
I spun the bolt onto the motor shaft and met alot of resistance. I checked the thread in the bolts and noticed they were covered with something.

I suspect this is the equivalent of LOCTITE 262 or other type of thread locker.

Do I torque this bolt down as is or do I still require the LOC 262

Thanks for being patient

It sounds like the locktite is already applied from the sounds of it. If you are sure that's what it is, go with it or apply some more before installing it.
