Intermitten speedometer

I have a 2001 sportster 1200 c, 15,000 mi., the speedometer will read intermittenly, or not at all. the light comes on, and I have replaced the transmission sensor and the speedometer. ?

Same thing happened to me, Hobbit is correct, i cleaned mine once or twice then bought a new one about $50
