2004 sporty's have a wider rear tire than previous years. My question is, how much wider can I go on the stock rim before fit and clearance become a problem?
Generally you can usually go up one size which amounts to 10mm split in width and height which is about 1/2"...doesn't seem like much, but you have to check and be sure that there is fender clearance and the wire loom tucked up under there for your tail/license lighting out back. Use your hand and a flash light to see if there is existing "scuffing", and consider suspension travel compressed or if bike was lowered. Also while in operation, that a tire expands a bit at speed. Use the following chart as a guide.
