Hog chapter dissapointing

One other thing. Be recognisant of the fact that it is VERY hard to organize a ride involving lots of riders, vendors and groups. You can't please all the people all the time. I tend to be less critical of the organizers as I am of individual riders who participate. Don't let one bad (it was actually a "mediocre" event) so no harm no foul, and yes I am an optimist, so I usually come away with good thoughts and ideas to make my next ride more enjoyable HOG or not. Things happen, and it takes a lot to make a motorcyle event successful. Try another HOG event, maybe with some local group and see if you come away with a better exprerience...don't let one time make all future events bad. That would be more of a tragedy than a minor disapointment

I too am a member of (what I consider) a pretty good local HOG chapter that go on alot of group rides. When I first joined I went on several but have gone on less as time has gone by.

I don't have a big problem with group rides in this chapter but as a friend of mine has said on many occasions, when you go on a group ride you are riding to the ability of the least experienced rider.

Now, I'm not a speed demon by any stretch but I do enjoy going faster thru the twisties than the least experienced rider.

I am a member of the local HOG chapter, and we do a lot of group rides, mostly for breakfast and lunch, with a few dinner rides tossed in. We normally have around 20 to 25 bikes, and will break up into smaller groups for longer rides. Riding in a group is always requires a little more attention, but we have a great time and our road captains do a great job.

WANTING TO BE POSITIVE......... HERE GOES

I rode/joined with a PATCH CLUB on MAUI, called" STREET BIKERS UNITED of HAWAII"...

Now that had GREAT results.. I have NEVER found another group that would compare...:::

This MAUI club with SO MANY who CARED SO MUCH for EACH RIDER of their group.(.)

I was asked IF I wanted to join THEIR group for A ride on the UP-Coming weekend.... JOIN meant COME ALONG.. of which I did...

I wondered WHY ME, AS I only had FRIENDED a few of the members while on the roads of the back villages while on a long VACATION and after all, and I was on a RENTAL, not a FANCY CUSTOM of which they ALL seemed to ride..

I met with a small group of 20 or so at a coffee shop and LISTENED to the introductions with NAMES that had enough VOWELS in them to make Vanna White on wheel of fortune BLUSH....

MY name LONNIE "NO" NOT LALONNIE but ended up that way with a bunch of smily faces, LAUGHING and attaching all the HAWAIIAN sounds to my name as possible..

(i wondered what did i get involved with here?)

It was a whole new world for me,, asked to ride with THEIR group,,,

NEVER a nicer bunch I have I ever MET since NOR will probably ever again!...........

The ride was planned out and EACH were given INSTRUCTIONS on directions of travel today AND the HOW WHEN WHY.... I only had to keep my distance with the person in front of me and behind me and MIND the CAPTAIN named PERCY... who gave HAND JESTERS to the GROUP that EACH rider passed back thru the group at different stages of the ride.. each KNOWING then, and ALL UNDERSTOOD what was to be done..

Ending the drivers meeting,

WE ALL JOINED HANDS in a tight circle and had a group prayer, EACH adding his OR her own personal touches as it came around... I SAID,,"""MAY we all RIDE as FRIENDS and SAFELY return AS FRIENDS"""..

I never thought there were SO MANY PAVED ROADS LEFT ON MAUI as I had covered them ALL in the weeks before this ride.... but not so.
We traveled thru the twisty and more twistiest LITTLE roads I never imagined were there.
We even had ROAD GUARDS and the ride went JUST as THEY planned and BETTER than I expected.

THAT is the SHORT story version of THE GREAT RIDE I'll ALWAYS REMEMBER.......

I WAS HONORED to come along on that ride and I received a MEMBERSHIP PATCH from this group BEFORE I had to return HOME to washington..

Now SEWED and worn PROUDLY on my OLD worn-out harley black vest.

I always remember to say:

MAY WE ALL RIDE AS FRIENDS AND SAFELY RETURN AS FRIENDS!

WE DID

YOU HIT MY FUNNY BONE!!!

You have that right..... SPOT ON!!!
funny WE haven't seen that LOGO out yet!

I VERY SELDOM plan a meal while "out on a ride" and sometimes HATE to stop for the WATER/GAS.....

SOME riders I DON'T RIDE WITH ANYMORE, just HAVE to stop at EVERY BAR and RESTAURANT, BOOZE BOOZE coffee coffee, along the way....(i don't consume alcohol)(been thar, done that)(coffee makes for TO MANY needed stops)....... GAS well, that is why I bot the bike w/6gal tank...

NOW an exception for FOOD is when going THRU SNOWHOMISH WA. 85 miles north of me.
a SEAFOOD place indoor and out CATERS to a LOT of BIKERS and CAR NUT TYPES... Snowhomish always has bike-auto shows on weekends...

MENTION to owner (BIG CHUCK) that the GUN toting-ponytail biker from Enumclaw sent you and he'll give ME that EXTRA prawn or fish when I come in. Thanks!

THE BEST: FISH,PRAWNS,SCALLOPS,CLAMS,LOBSTER,CRAB you can find in the north west... WON that award this last year.
NOTHING FANCY but just good food.

MIND YOU I travel USUALLY LIGHT and by MYSELF (occasionally wife along, the best kind being light of weight and NOT over fed!)
Stop when I WANT and IF I WANT not HAVING TO STOP (group function)...

PERFECT!

i ride in 2 large group rides, that so far, have been pretty good. harleys for horses and the 911 ride here in south La. the first supports a therapeutic riding center for children and adults. riders for the most part do a good job the whole ride and all major intersections or hiway changes are manned by local sheriff depts.

the 911 run starts out as a poker run in the morning and all bikes meeting up at the stop later in the day, and then police escort back to the start area.

other than that i also prefer alone or with the people we do runs with, 3-10 bikes
