I recently purchased a 2010 Fatboy Lo, was pretty excited until I spent some time in stop and go traffic. The heat from the oil tank was incredible, so much so, I'm sure I would have had blisters if I hadn't moved my leg.
I did some checking and this seems to be a common complaint. Fortunately, I searched this site and found suggestions to use a RJ Originals heat deflector.
I called and spoke with RJ himself and ordered a pair that day. Got them in the mail this past Friday (in time for the holiday). It literally took me 5 minutes to install them (3 minutes to get the seat off) and begin riding immediately.
The difference was incredible, I rode all weekend, several hours at a time, stop and go traffic, and no heat related issues at all. There is still some warmth from the pipes, but nothing uncomfortable.
RJ, thank you for improving my ride. No more "Fried Thighs".
