Group Riding -- pros and cons

The most annoying and irritating in group riding is a guy in front of me keep weaves left to right to left all the time while the others in front of him stay in formation and does not knows hand signal when turning, I try to keep my position so others behind me can stay in the formation even if I have to back off a bit to get myself some "cushion room" from him, other than that, group riding is fun.

We ride as a group regularly we have learner's ride with us as they know we don't fly off and we do corner drop offs, we ride at 60ish it's a good steady speed all bikes will do and as for the loud pipes in front I usually am leading :)

I'll show my ignorance - what are "corner drop offs?"

I like riding with friends I know that I know how they ride...if we feel like it we do speeds that suit us and catch up with the faster ones down the road....big group riding for me...well, to put it in a nice way....too much ego other than my own to deal with

I have had mostly good experiences both solo and with groups. When riding with a group, I like the different looks that come on peoples faces as they see the group ride up! Plus, with a group, I have found that other drivers tend to give you more respect as far as sharing the road than if you are solo. Pros or Cons, get in the wind and ride!

Dropping a rider to block intersections.

I would hope that no group does this. It is very dangerous and in many states such as Orygun, it's illegal. Also, if you get smacked by someone, I would be greatly surprised if your insurance will cover you. Just my .02 worth.

this is done on regular occurance over here on parades and on ride outs, if its not safe to do it you dont but if it is safe you do it as it allows the parade/group out as one whole so you dont get the cars inbetween followed by mass of bikes overtaking or the driver if the car trying to over take the entire group as having bikes in front and behind spook them

In this part of the country it's called being the sacrificial lamb! :D

Seriously, it's done in police-escorted charity rides and I've been with small groups who have done it; but, in the small group case it's definitely illegal and there are alternatives (like watching the rear view mirror!)

Ok, understood with parades etc... We do the same on toy runs or special events, but we have to have a permit and under police supervision. As mentioned, also around here if any group does this they are looking for a T-Bone event, big time.

I have done a few poker runs, but on the whole I prefer to ride alone or with one or two friends
