2003 harley road king. Just put in new battery. Tests fine if I attach to positive and negative posts, but if I put the positive lead on the positive post and the negative lead anywhere on the bike that should ground I get nothing. Tried with charger, test light, and multimetre. I removed and re tightended the negative ground cable on a couple different spots and still nothing. Ideas, pls and thx....

Put black lead of multimeter directly on negative POST, not cable. Red lead on engine. Multimeter on ohms/resistance setting.

Cool! I think my evo was probably the best motor ever built, but, I love my Shoveĺ as well! Back in the day, they really made some nice bikes!
Got it beat.. lack of continuity with negative cable.. All good now.. thx for your advice.. Never had an evo but always hear how good they are. I love my old shovelhead too... bought from a friend back in 2006 with a broken frame. bought new frame and rebuilt the bike around it..

When you say “tested fine” what does that mean?
You need a load testing tool to get the actual condition of the battery.
A proper tester will ask what type of battery, acid filled or AGM, and ask for the Cold Cranking Amps. It will then provide a OHM and load test.
