Fuel Tank Storage

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes.

I just got a new custom painted tank and fender set for my Fatboy. I hope to get them on this week. I am going to keep my old tank and fenders just to have them around. I may get a urge to go back to stock one day.

What should I do to the old tank to store it? It is clean inside and I just want to keep it that way and not have any rust.

Any ideas?

I have looked around a little online, but figured I'd ask here.

Thanks for your help.

Eric

I would give tye inside a good coating of a heavy oil and roll it around for coverage, then seal it up . You may want to put it in the sun foir a while before sealing it up to dry out any moisture.

Thanks Glider. That is what I was thinking. I think I am going to use fogging oil that I use to store boat engines. It stays around and clings for a long time.

I guess I can't spell Fuel either. Sorry about the title.:small3d015:

Keeping it out in the sun is a good idea.

That would work too but it would be a bit more difficult to get complete coverage inside the tank as compared to the oil that you could roll around to be sure. Have used the store and start many times for winterizing engines and it doesn't travel to the inside of the tank IMO better than oil.
