Pretty sure you have a single phase stator unless someone have change out your system (stator and VR) to three phase. Doubt that though.
Check this out for some simple diagnostics. If you find that the charging system is working properly but the gauge is still acting strangely, try cleaning the posts on the gauge and reattaching the wires.
