Every time i put the Dyna on the bike lift i take off the side stand spring or it gets caught up in the lift
It can be a pest to get it back on but i use the following method to do this
Put one end of the spring in the vice and pull down the other end to open the coils of the spring insert a washer or small coin in each space
Once you are halfway up the spring pull it in the other direction and fill the gaps on the other side
Turn the spring over and work from the other end till all spaces are filled
This has stretched the spring approx 1" and should be more than enough to get it easily fitted
Next photo didn't work
i steady the bike by placing the lift under the front of the frame and only put it up enough to hold the bike steady
Put the side stand up and hold it in place just hold the spring in place and pull out washers until the spring is correctly seated then put the side stand down and all the washers will fall out sweep them up off the shed floor and put away for the next time
This procedure will work on almost any spring anywhere that is under a wee bit of tension when fitted
