Advantages of a dry sump system
lower engine profile
can have a larger capacity of oil (dependent on the size of external oil tank)
greater cooling of the oil can be achieved
disadvantages
more chance of oil leaks due to the external connections
that is as i remember but at some time in the future i may go and find my general mechanical principals book and look it up
Although it is about 30 years out of date some things never change
