Escorting the Wall Wednesday

You are going to be OK Dave. I wish that I could come down and help with the escort. We are having a Veteran's run here this weekend at Milwaukee Harley but unfortunately I am flying down there for a family issue. Enjoy!

Probably so my good friend. Actually my wife and I will have to drive back over (I surmise) after they assemble it at the destination, in order to actually see it. As far as it being easy on me I don't think we are doing a standing flag line on this mission. After the first 35 mins of standing in one position my legs start cramping bad (not complaining, just fact). I have stood for 3 hrs once at an evening casket viewing mission and it becomes a mental pain managament thing then.
I can't really put into words what I feel about the PGR. I am drawn to make as many mission's as I can. I want to do it, but it is most times not a pleasant thing. But it is the least I can do for the Vet. There are many PGR members who are much more dedicated and drive much further to missions than I do. Fortunately there are many of us. If I was ever aware of a shortage I would try hard to widen my driving radius even so.
I have never even seen a protestor. I do it for the Vet's spirit and their families. I was standing in a flag line in front of a church one day in the hot sun. We were all sweating like pigs. The Vet's daughter arrived and got out of her car sobbing with tears. She was obviously shaken from her father's death. She slowly walked down the entire flag line of about 30 of us and shook each one of our hands. When she looked up at me with those pain stricken sobbing eyes and told me she was so thankful for us honoring her Daddy's funeral, it was almost more than I could do to hold my composure.
I did not know what to say to her. But I just said, Mam your Daddy honored us all.
Men go off to war and women bear kids. It's just the way it has always been. But there is a love that springs forth from all the effort and spilled blood.

Years ago I finally figured out that funerals are supposed to feel awkward and we should be at a loss for words. Even so it seems like you were given the right thing to say. Thanks for serving in this way - Bob

Dave now days you have to include the women going off to war also. My Son serves with quit a few women fighter pilots that can be shot down just as easily as the men. They both Honor us all here by sacrificing their lives to keep this nation free.

Yes I imagine a woman would make a good pilot. Some of them display pretty aggressive driving technics in traffic. Honor to ALL of them Men and Women.
Donna and I rode the Harley back over to Tampa yesterday to see the Nam Wall all setup. It's an indoor setup (there are several Nam traveling walls). We talked at length with Tom and Dee the creators and caretakers of this wall. Tom was in the 101st Airborne (assualt) in Viet Nam. Here's a pic of Donna, Tom and me.
