DOT Helmets not certified

The article though good is heavily bias towards Snell...the thing is CE (Euro-standard) is considered better primarily because the Snell helmet exterior is more rugged & penetration resistant, but does not distribute shock over as large a surface area as even the lesser DOT and non-rated poly-carbonate ones! That was why CE changed it's testing methods early on. :s

Motorcyclist magazine seemed to have a lost major helmet manufacturer ads for a couple years after they made that "discovery" by running an independent blanket of tests over all types of helmets not just DOT and Snell certified ones and found the best rating to be an inexpensive polycarbonate one, which did not transfer as much energy to the polyform head than any of the Snell 5x the $$$$'s or DOT 2x the $$'s. :shock

I have always used Shoei which is Snell rated, but after that article, even pro level riders in MotoGP changed over to CE rated ones. I have been wearing DOT or CE rated ones since then. Recently Snell changed their standards and testing techniques a bit, measuring the actual distribution of energy within the headform as part of their graphic and charted results analysis.:newsmile091:
