Cv carb

Wouldn't you think fitting a high flow filter in a stock air box would be a bit of a challenge?

HD stock - 171 CFM
Stage 1 Big Sucker = 200 CFM
Stage 2 Big Sucker = 250 CFM.
Kuryakyn Twin Velocity = 270 CFM
K&N E-3014 = 248 CFM RK=3009 kit
K&N E-3037 = 301 CFM RK=3910 kit
HD-0800 = 231 CFM SE replacement
Doherty Powerpacc = 287 CFM
SE Air Cleaner = 287 CFM
Zippers = 321 CFM
Woods Carbs = 4 models 135 CFM up to 340 CFM
Wimmer V02 flows 255 CFM
BC Gerolamy Overflow = 800+ CFM

Start at the beginning and work to the end
increase the air into the air box stock filter ain't that restrictive
but high flow filter on an UN modified air box wont get you anywhere as most of the restriction is in the design of the air box inlet

I don't remember what post it was in,but I spent an afternoon experimenting with different air cleaner set ups, from stock to drilling to stage1 and the difference between stock and drilled was disapointing to say the least! Just not worth the effort.:s

All my bikes are early 90s and there is a k&n high flow replacement for the stock filter in each of the models that i have
although all mine are sorted sportster has se kit fitted softail has hsr 42 with mikuni high flow filter and the dyna has a se filter kit
but the 94 sportster with stock filter and drilled air box open exhaust and larger jets performed so much better than stock
no harley dealers here no harley specialist indys no experience in the general area ive got to fly by my own pants here cos nobody knows any better

glider thanks for the cv carb info just put in 95" andrews 37g cams 48/195 jets 01 road glide works grreat fine tune carb after breakin

I have a 1993 low rider with a mikuni hsr 42 on it , i just love the way that thing kind of sounds like it chirps like a bird when i hammer the throttle, i almost crashed the bike listening to it when i first put it on the bike, wow did it make a difference, the bike just sings, litterally, with that mikuni on it, lots of fun, happy riding to all, watch the 4 wheelers.

I have an '05 Super Glide with the stock carb and a K & N filter but no box or enclosure. Screaming Eagle II mufflers. When I had the carb apart I noticed it has a 48 and I think it's supposed to be a 45. Anyway, when the bike is cold I have to run with the enricher pulled out for a long time. Otherwise it will stall and/or cough. I have read a number of articles on how to deal with this and am interested in Glider's opinion. I have the bike apart performing enhancements and want to tackle this at the same time.
Thanks!

A number 46 low jet would be about right and the 48 you have in there now would cause just the opposite of what you mentioned with the enricher out longer than normal. It would be cause for very little enricher with the 48 jet in there. I would clean out the carb and check the enricher operation while you are at it. The enriches is basically a jet similar to the slow jet and if it isn't working properly, it could give you problems of not enough fuel flow.
Also check for intake leaks too or a bad diaphragm in the carb top.

Thanks Glider. This problem has me so frurstrated. Whe I first got the bike I took the carb apart and it was amazingly clean. I'll take a look into the enricher operation and check for intake leaks. A buddy has an '03 Super Glide and says his bike starts and runs just fine. NO ISSUES!! So I know there is a solution.
