Could a bad battery or a battery on its way out cause the check engine light to come on? Have not checked codes. Could have a problem with voltage regulator, possibly a stator (hope not!!) 2002 FLSTCI, speedo looses power comes back. Just troubleshooting. Or would a bad battery cause the lose of power to speedo as well. Going to have battery checked and put a meter on the voltage regulator.

THX for any thoughts.

Bad batterys can cause a lot of strange things to happen, like bouncing speedos and lights flashing. When in doubt check with a volt meter, should be at least 12.5 volts, then load test the battery and check your connections and check your grounds. Connect the aligator clip to the pos. of the battery, any metal object you touch on the bike with the other end of the test light if grounded should light the test light, Good Luck, Jack

My '04 softail standard had odd things happening due to lo battery. The trip meter would reset to 0.00 miles, speedometer would read 0 for a split second going down the road. Check engine light did come on every once in awhile...Installed fresh battery and everything running normally now...
