Compensator??

I ride a 2008 FLHTPI 103CI, bike starts right up when cold but after it warms up it clanks and bangs, kicks back and soynds like it's going to self destruct.
Was advised that bad compensator was most likely the cause but when I pulled the primary cover this is what I found.. (pic)

Can't tell much from that picture; you will have to disassemble to see what's going on. You may or may not be aware that the MoCo changed to the cam/ramp design in 2007 which was known for clunking at start up/shutdown; "marbles in a coffee can" noises; sprocket wear; loose compensator nuts and failed ramps. The MoCo "upgraded" this new version several time, first 2011, little improvement; 2014 "Screaming Eagle" upgrade which many owners retrofitted which improved reliability but still some had issues. Both my bikes are old so I have no "hands on" experience but unless you want to consider the Darkhorse "Man o War" option, which IMHO is a "one and done" fix. your best OEM solution would be the Screaming Eagle unit + the updated lubrication parts which includes a composite oil deflector that is glued on to the inner primary. There are 2 TSBs issued, a TSB M-1467 "Compensator Sprocket Noise" and M-1467A that you should probably Google up and read. The problem you are having is only going to get worse and you need to address it sooner rather than later. The part number for the Screaming Eagle compensator is 42200064A and the part number for the oil deflector is 36500034. You should also replace the compensator bolt PN 40272-08A. You need to check me on the PNs. Good luck.;)
