Compensator nut

I have an early 90's EVO and I'm installing the compensator. The compensator nut shoulders out at .075 before it touches the compensator washer. I have read the thread on compensator nut re-torque, and a shim of .090 can be used or mill the nut. The thread states to mill .030 but that still leaves me shouldered out short of the compensator washer.

My question is when I mill the nut should I go to .090 which leaves me .015 room for torque, is this enough or too much?
