Clutch issues Help please

I have a 92 heritage softail and while riding heard a clunck then all of a sudden tehre is a lot of give..space between gears on the shifter pedal. It is making a somewhat growling noise now also....Anyone have ANY idea what this might be or where I should start?

Have to start at the beginning and check linkages, then the pulley/output shaft on trans and maybe get into the trans then.
