Bike jumped out of gear when I hit rear brake.

I've never had one jump out of gear and I use my rear brake pretty hard sometimes, and I have ABS on my current ride.

I would think it would be more of a shifter fork/drum adjustment issue if there isn't phsical contact between linkage and a fixed object. JMO.

Me either and i have had the heaver shift peg and now have a longer shift arm but different peg and have not had this problem at all
